PROJECTS

POSTAL SERVICES

  • Development of functional outputs frameworks for measuring Australia Post's aggregate and reserved services total factor productivity (TFP). Productivity growth based on these frameworks is calculated at the aggregate level for 1992 to 2019 and at the reserved services level for 1997 to 2019. • Estimation of output cost elasticities for Australia Post's mail centres and delivery centres to assess the impact of declining mail volumes on Australia Post's regulated services costs. Click here to see Economic Insights report for Australia Post.
  • Review of UK and US studies of the relationship between changes in postal volumes and postal service costs and their applicability to Australia Post. Click here to see our report which formed part of Australia Postís business letter pricing notification to the ACCC.
  • Update of Australia Post's aggregate and reserved productivity performance using the billed outputs framework. Click here to view our report which was submitted to the ACCC as part of Australia Post's 2009 Draft Price Notification.
  • Report for Australia Post on the distribution of the benefits from productivity improvements among key stakeholder groups comprising consumers, input suppliers and the owner. The results of this study show that most of the benefits from Australia Post's reserved service productivity improvements over the past 12 years, and considerably more than all of the benefits over the last seven years, have been passed on to consumers in the form of real price reductions.
